Dear Parents and Students,
The 2009-2010 school year brings a sense of renewed spirit to Pacific High. There have been a few changes to the school and the school district that have transpired over the summer. Several remodeling projects have improved our facilities significantly. We now boast new practice rooms for music classes, remodeled restrooms, a new vocational classroom and a new conference area near the office. The consolidation of the elementary classes into the Driftwood building has created a new educational environment that has many state of the art features! I am extremely excited to begin my second year as the principal of Pacific High School and will also continue to serve as the Special Services Director for the Port Orford-Langlois School District. I look forward to working with all of you this year to keep Pacific High and the entire school district moving forward in the pursuit of excellence. I encourage all parents to maintain an active role in their child's time at PHS by attending the various school projects, sporting events and activities, visiting school during the day and offering to volunteer in some aspect of the school. I always welcome students, parents, staff members, as well as members of the community to stop by my office at the high school to share thoughts, questions or concerns.
The Port Orford-Langlois School Board and Pacific High school staff have high expectations for all students, both academically and behaviorally. Students at PHS are expected to contribute to the overall school environment by aspiring to always be safe, respectful and responsible. The PHS teaching staff contains a wonderful blend of veteran and beginning instructors that are all highly qualified in their field of expertise. I feel very fortunate to be able to work with this elite group of educators and support staff, with a curriculum that is rich in its offerings to bring excellence and attention to the needs of our students.
Aside from our core class offerings in English, Health, Mathematics, Physical Education, Science, and Social Studies; Pacific High School students may choose from the following elective offerings: Accounting, Agriscience, Band, CAD/CAM Construction, Chemistry, Chorus, Classroom Assistant, Commercial Art, Computer Technology, Digital Media, Journalism, Leadership, Marine Biology, Odysseyware Enrichment/Credit Recovery, Physics, Precalculus, Spanish, Study Skills, Wood Shop, Weight Training, Welding, Wordprocessing, Work Experience and Yearbook Production. Golf has been added as an OSAA sport at PHS for the spring of 2010. High school football and wrestling have also been made available to PHS students in 2009-2010 through a cooperative effort with Bandon High School.
Again, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Tony Jones, Principal
