2CJ School District Announces Change in Leadership

At the July 9, 2007 School Board meeting, the gavel for the position of Chair of the School Board was passed from Joe Brown to Rosaria Williams for the 2007-2008 school year. The Board expressed appreciation for Joe's leadership and wisdom and the incredible amount of time that he expended on behalf of the district. Joe Brown will continue to assist the new Chairman, Rosaria Williams, as vice-chair. The following is a message that Rosaria shared with the Board of Directors upon assuming her new role of leadership.

"Dear Directors:

First, I want to thank the Board for their vote of confidence. I know that I can depend on Joe's leadership to help me as I take on the job of president. His shoes are hard to fill. Thank you Joe.

Our work on behalf of this district is of great importance right now as we forge new alliances and provide new opportunities for our children. Joe Brown set the course, we are on our way.

We face an era of unprecedented opportunities on the south coast. Our small communities of Langlois and Port Orford are growing, and we must we be prepared to balance what is best of our traditions with what future skills and knowledge will be demanded of our children. How well they compete, will depend on the preparation they have received. They will need to understand the challenges and work hard to be ready.

We have been extremely fortunate to have Superintendent Ruby Price to take on such a demanding task. Together with teachers, staff, families and the two communities, we look forward to assure that the present and future needs of our students are always in the forefront. This mission will require that we look at improving our operations and our methods for efficiency and for high performance.

Each one of us brings a new perspective to our discussions. Without these perspectives, we would be working in a tunnel with no compass. Our Key Communicators' and our communities' involvement are important in helping us understand the world around us and its challenges. I look forward to a great year ahead."
